My first encounter with yoga happened 8 years ago, in a park. A lady rolled out her mat, sat down in a simple cross legged position, and began moving in a gentle circular motion. What stayed with me wasn't the pose itself—it was watching her belly and chest rise and fall with each breath, so present, so at peace. That was the first time I felt something beyond the physical world. I wanted to know more. And so I began practising yoga on and off at first. Now, it became more than just moving my body. Yoga became a practice of self-awareness, a way to connect my body and mind. That was the start of my journey to discover yoga beyond the asanas. At first, I wanted to share what I had learned with my family and close friends since the experiences that had helped me grow. Now, I hope to extend that to more people. Yoga has given me so much more than flexibility and strength. It has given me a way to connect with the world. I used to be extremely shy. Communicating and eye contact with people felt like a huge pressure. But through consistent practises, I've built confidence and found steadiness in my work. I've learned how to return to a calm mind whenever challenges arise. I'm still learning, still practising every day. This is why I want to part of AYC volunteer. I believe in the power of yoga, and I want to share it with others, not just the postures, but the peace and self-awareness that come with them.
